Carole Budgen rediscover your passion

Rediscover your passion, purpose and potential

Create the next chapter of your life on your terms, and experience more joy and fulfilment.

Are you tired of…

…pleasing others and putting yourself last
…suppressing what you want because it feels selfish
…trying to make changes but they never stick
…dissatisfaction with how you’re living your current life
…feeling invisible as you get older
…running out of steam

Clients have told me:

  • ”I feel my embers have gone out”
  • “I’ve forgotten what happy feels like”
  • “I don’t know how to enjoy myself anymore”
  • “I’m no fun to be around”

They know “something” needs to change – and realise that “something” is inside themselves rather than the outside world.

That’s a powerful insight – but without knowing how to take action, it results in endless thinking; going around in circles without finding an answer. It causes sleepless nights, self-doubt and sadness. It impacts health and relationships. They long not just to find their old self again – but to embrace who they are now, what they want and the future they want to create.

Life coaching supports changing things that hold you back, things like:

  • Difficulty setting boundaries
  • Feelings of failure and inadequacy
  • Exhaustion
  • Harsh judgment of self and others
  • Procrastination
  • Imposter syndrome
  • Isolation
  • Perfectionism
  • Rumination and insomnia
  • Feeling stuck
  • Demotivation
  • Low confidence

Investing in yourself

When you’re sick and tired of things in your life not working for you and you’re desperate to do something about it, it’s time to make yourself a priority and invest in yourself.

If that feels selfish – it could indicate an old story you’re telling yourself – because taking care of yourself will benefit everyone else in your life too.

The opposite can’t be true, right?

My mission is to support your midlife journey with powerful coaching so you can get clear on what stands in the way of creating the life you long to live.

Meet Carole

I love stories. I’m fascinated by those we create for ourselves; how they can be told in so many different ways, and how we can create stories which hold us back and self-sabotage our potential.

As a screenwriter for many years, I loved my job, travelling, meeting interesting people and creating stories.

Then in midlife, a series of challenges left me feeling stuck. My children had left home for exciting lives far away, and I had writer’s block after a screenplay I’d spent two years writing was cancelled due to the pandemic. Changing direction to work in education brought me work I enjoyed – but it was exhausting and relentless and I wondered how I could carry on until retirement. I felt low and frustrated and no amount of thinking brought me any answers. It took investing in myself and working with a therapist and a life coach to get clear on what I wanted the next chapter of my life to be about. It led to my qualifying as a Life Coach to help others who have reached a midpoint in their life and want support to create their next exciting chapter.

Each time I’ve rewritten my own story I’ve discovered more about who I am, and who I want to become. When I’m not coaching or writing, I love being outside in nature, with my family and my dog Teddy, practising yoga, somatics and meditation, reading, knitting for my grandchildren, making sourdough, kimchi, kefir and kombucha (my fermentation friends!) I love travelling and experiencing different cultures, cuisines and experiences, especially in South East Asia.

Carole Budgen stories

What do I mean by stories?

Every day, we tell ourselves stories. We create them around events as they happen, interpreting a cold stare on the tube or an unanswered text from a friend with a self-crafted explanation. We create stories about ourselves too, but most of the time, we aren’t even aware we’re doing it. I believe it’s the stories we secretly tell ourselves about ourselves that can hold us back from the very things we’d love to become.

A few simple examples of our stories could be:

  • If I say what I think, no one will like me
  • Being a nice person means putting everyone else first
  • People like me aren’t creative/a leader/successful

Self-limiting stories like these leave us feeling inauthentic, exhausted and unable to live the life we’re meant to live. We feel stuck, confused and frustrated that however much we want to reach our goals, they seem to elude us. That’s because, as Daniel Kahneman writes in Thinking Fast & Slow. “Ideas are sticky, once we produce a theory, we are not likely to change our minds.”

In realising how prone we are to tell stories, and more importantly – to believe them – we can create new ones. And when we change the stories we tell ourselves, we can change how we see the world and ourselves within it.

Me as a coach

My coaching style is warm and empathic with a flexible, creative approach to exploring the obstacles my clients face. Working creatively can be powerful in understanding what’s happening subconsciously; my clients find this a fun way to see things in a new light. I draw on training in somatic embodiment (how it feels in the body), positive psychology and mindfulness to support my clients in changing old patterns and discovering new perspectives.

I believe challenge is important to move my clients from their comfort zone towards growth and change. Knowing this can feel uncomfortable, my gentle, compassionate approach enables them to feel safe and heard at all times.

My goal for our work together is to empower you with the confidence, energy and motivation you need to make your vision of how you want your life to be, a reality.
